Friction Material

In order to generate the friction required to stop the car, friction materials like brake linings, friction geared discs & rings etc. are utilised in brake pads and brake shoes. A backing plate, which is commonly constructed of asbestos, steel, or ceramic, holds the brake lining in place. The brake lining deteriorates together with the brake pad or shoe and must eventually be replaced. To establish a frictional connection between two surfaces, frictional geared discs and rings are used. The friction materials are normally composed of a softer substance, like rubber, whereas the discs are typically made of a harder material, like metal.
